Volunteering at Nature in Art

Volunteer Makers is a volunteer engagement model that encourages an organisation-wide approach to creating ideas that will engage, grow and inspire volunteers and supporters. Nature in Art was selected to pioneer this new model with a view to increasing volunteer numbers and engagement. The Volunteer Makers model suits people from many different backgrounds who want to offer different commitment levels to volunteering, rather than just being aimed at volunteers who can commit regular time.

Digital technology is a key engagement tool for museums and digital is at the heart of Volunteer Makers. It enables us to personalise engagement with our volunteers, matching activities with skills, interests and time commitments. Having larger numbers of volunteers who give smaller amounts of volunteering time is called micro-volunteering and can add up to a considerable amount of support.

Volunteer Makers personalises volunteering activity, including that of existing volunteers who regularly volunteer. With Volunteer Makers volunteer activity is categorised as:

  • Just a minute (volunteers can give just minutes of their time)
  • Give a day (one off projects to support Nature in Art)
  • Regular help (stewards & education volunteers)

It’s really simple to get involved, just head over to www.natureinart.volunteermakers.org to register and take a look at our current volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers are vital to keep Nature in Art running. We are very grateful for all that they do! They are here to show you around and have a wealth of knowledge about the gallery and its exhibits.

Our longest serving volunteers have been working with us for over 20 years and enjoy being part of a team that makes a real difference as well as being able to see the changing exhibitions and meeting the artists in residence.

What Can You Do? Volunteers take part in a wide range of activities:

Stewarding in the galleries

Helping with schools

Manning stalls at our Craft Fair

Behind the scenes archiving

Exhibition preparation

Research

Marketing support

Gardening and a number of other one-off collection based projects.

We have information sheets on some of these activities which we would be pleased to send you.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact us today!

Volunteers can find opportunities that suit their own diaries. Some volunteers help quite regularly, others much less frequently, but all their contributions make a big difference.

We have been very grateful to members of NADFAS who, from time to time, have assisted us with one-off with special projects.
