This course will cover a basic understanding of materials and acrylic painting techniques needed to complete a landscape painting working from a reference photo provided by the tutor. The next stage will be to study aerial and linear perspective, techniques needed to paint skies and colour mixing to create depth in the landscape.

This two day course will show you how to sketch the landscapes and architecture of Gloucestershire with waterproof black ink pen and watercolour wash. Using photos supplied by the tutor you will be shown how to use the pen with watercolour paint both before and after painting.

Working in black & white and colour, the course will explore different ways of depicting trees in lino prints.  We will be looking at different approaches for trees in leaf and bare trees, as well as stylised designs.

The course will look at how to use colour in your work and how to register your prints so that you can add different layers. A variety of different inking techniques will be taught.

Are you terrified of drawing but secretly long to learn how? Richard Box has an  approach that will steady your nerves and build drawing ability and confidence. You will be amazed at what you will be able to draw by following his method. Because you are ‘terrified’  you will stay with a simple still life for the whole course. The main focus is in learning how to truly SEE what is often merely glanced. Once this is understood, you will be empowered to follow a number of procedures and techniques in both monochrome and colour. Thereafter, at home, you will be able to apply these to any subject you like.

Explore Braiding – Braiding Society Members @ Nature in Art

Members of The Braid Society will demonstrate and introduce participants to various braiding techniques. These will include Kumihimo on Marudai and disc, Ply-Split braiding and cord making, Inkle/band weaving. During the day, you will be able to choose two different methods to learn or develop your skills to make a group of samples or a small piece of braided jewellery.

Special note for this course: As there will be more than one tutor on this course, the total number we can accommodate will be 20, but all the teaching of the different techniques will be done in groups of 5 – 10 people so, as with all our courses, there always will be plenty of individual attention.

This two day course will show you how to sketch the colours and textures of autumn landscapes with waterproof black ink pen and watercolour wash. Using photos supplied by the tutor you will be shown how to use the pen with watercolour paint both before and after painting. Techniques taught will include colour mixing, brush technique, light and dark, drawing with a pen and how to loosen up to achieve expressive sketches.

Glorious Glass Engraving – Amanda Lawrence @ Nature in Art

This course explores the wonderful and versatile craft of glass engraving with a drill.  It’s an opportunity for beginners to learn the basic techniques and for those who have attended a previous course to expand their skills.  Over the two days we will discover three different techniques, starting with surface engraving, moving on to intaglio (low relief) engraving and also exploring vitreography – printing from your engraving onto paper.  You will work on both flat glass and vessels and you will come away with at least one little masterpiece of your own making!
