During this 2-day course Stephen will teach you how charcoal and charcoal pencils compliment each other, so that intricate and subtle details can be achieved as well as the flowing expressive marks the medium is more commonly associated with.
Stephen will demonstrate how the use of various tools can help you control the charcoal allowing the creation of soulful and expressive eyes, deep soft fur, or any other texture you might wish to depict.
You will have the chance to re-create one of Stephen’s drawings and learn lots of those little things that go into the creation of a drawing. Stephen will also demonstrate techniques for transferring an outline onto paper for anyone that wishes to concentrate on achieving great tones and textures rather than struggle to get correct proportions.
All materials needed for the course will be available to borrow free of charge from Stephen Walton.
Stephen is an award winning artist who after ten years experience working in an art gallery has recently took the plunge to become a full time artist.
During his time at the gallery he curated and installed exhibitions as well as running workshops and courses for adults and children alike. He gleaned a great deal from all of these experiences.
Stephen has recently had his first book published, Counting Lions – Portraits From the Wild. With a foreword written by Virginia McKenna, who describes Stephen’s charcoal drawings as ‘Beautiful’. Stephen hopes this will be his first major step in aiding the wildlife he loves so much.
