Students will be expertly guided through the process of sculpting with the medium of wire be it galvanised, copper or coloured telephone cable.
Students can choose to keep it simple and create a 2D wire drawing, make a small bird or take on a bigger challenge and build a more complex sculpture.
On day 1 you will develop ideas through making a small ‘study’ sculpture and then start the foundations of your larger structure. On day 2 will you continue to add features and details.
Throughout the course you will learn about the different kids of recycled wires and where to source them for future projects.
All materials will be supplied by Celia Smith, at the cost of £10-15 per participant,
depending on the size of sculpture made. This will be payable directly to her on the day of the course.
Celia Smith is an artist who draws with wire, as others draw with pencil. For her, creating sculptures out of wire is like drawing in three dimensions. Birds are her main inspiration; capturing their movement and character is her primary concern. She finds that wire has a spontaneity that can give her sculptures a feeling of life and energy.
The majority of Celia’s sculptures are of domestic and native British birds. She aims to capture not only their shape but also their movement and character.
