An illustrated talk by Simon Trapnell. Our 2016 exhibition CROWD focused on some of the wonderful objects in our collection. Now that we are in our 30th anniversary year, tonight we look afresh at some of the paintings and original prints that have been added to our collection or borrowed from other collections since we opened. Personal thoughts and stories behind amazing works. An art based talk for everyone, even those who wonder whether art is for them at all! Tickets include a finger buffet.
Art Course
with Jonathan Newey 10am – 5pm

This is a two day course that will show you how to draw African wildlife portraits with coloured pencil. Using photographs supplied by the tutor you will be shown how to draw the textures of animals such as Lions, Elephants and African birds using techniques such as blending, layering, colour mixing and shading. Each exercise will be demonstrated step by step and the tutor will be on hand to provide group and individual constructive criticism. By the end of the course you will have produce a few drawings to take home. Suitable for beginners and students with some knowledge of the medium.

Artist’s Profile Jonathan Newey is an award winning artist with over 20 years of experience in teaching in adult education.
He is well known nationally for his coloured pencil drawings of animals and is a founder member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society.

On this 2-day course you will learn all about working with graphite pencil from experienced artist Jamie Boots.
Graphite pencil can be used to produce so much more than just a sketch.
Jamie will show participants that. whether or not you are using a pencil that is blunt or sharp, pressing lightly or hard, or using a variety of tones, the realistic texture of skin, fur and the glassy look of an eye can be achieved.

Artist’s Profile Originally from New Zealand, Jamie is a renowned, but self taught, artist whose work is produced in graphite pencil. Jamie first exhibited his work in 2004 and has won a number of awards for his artwork.
In a very short period of time a hobby became a profession and with a limited number of originals being available each year his drawings have become highly collectable.
An evening of life drawing with a model under the guidance of Rosemary Harvey. Please bring your art materials and a monetary donation for the model. (Some materials may be available for loan of needed).
Art Course

This 2-day course will cover basic bird anatomy, sketching methods and techniques, the use and handling of watercolour and composing a picture.
For the more ambitious, there will be the opportunity to have a go at sketching birds in flight, which is more of a challenge.
This course is aimed at a range of ability levels, with Trevor on hand to demonstrate particular techniques and to help you develop and
improve your skills.

Artist’s Profile Trevor’s deep interest in wildlife dates back to childhood and grew with a desire to record the birds and animals he encountered on his visits to local nature reserves and wild corners of Worcestershire. Mastering and developing sketching skills was important!
Trevor has been teaching students the essentials of bird art for over twenty years, but still get a kick from seeing people thrill to the subject and often surprise themselves with hidden latent ability.
In 2001 he published a book Sketching Wild Birds, which was received to high acclaim, as a means of encapsulating his experiences of recording images from life and encouraging others.

An evening of carols, festive music and words with one of the three choirs led by Monika Murrel. Preceded by festive snacks, mince pies and mulled wine. Part of the proceeds to help the homeless.
A Passion for Nature – a film about Peter Scott.
All the latest winners in the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography competition organised by The Natural History Museum. Chosen from almost 50,000 entries from 92 countries, these amazing images reflect nature’s beauty, diversity and fragility.
These three particular fish were very curious. As I approached, they danced about the camera lens, and there are parasitic isopod in their mouth. It took me six dives, patience and luck to capture the exact moment when all three fish opened their mouths to reveal their guests. Finally, on the last day, on the last dive, I succeeded.
