Discover the fascinating world of Encaustic Wax Art using pigmented, non-toxic beeswax and a small electric iron to create gorgeous, vibrant pictures in no time at all.
On this 2-day course you will learn the basics techniques of Encaustic Wax Art and then use this beautiful medium to create seven original Chakra paintings that you can take

home with you to frame. Chakra means Wheel in Sanskrit and there are said to be seven major energy centres in the body located along the spine which also correspond to the

colours of the rainbow. There will be the opportunity to take part in short relaxing meditation after which you will create a unique and personal painting for each Chakra in

various colours.

Please wear old clothes or bring an apron, as the melted wax can drip and will not wash out.
All other materials will be supplied by Elaine Jones, at the cost of £25 per participant, payable directly to her on the day of the course.

Artist’s Profile
Art has been a passion for Elaine for as long as she can remember and she has always
enjoyed a wide variety of creative hobbies but her favourite pastime is working with hot, coloured beeswax to create original Fantasy and Abstract Encaustic Art.
The way that colour can affect our moods fascinates Elaine and this has led her to combine her love of Art with her interest in Healing to create her unique paintings.

Elaine has been Artist in Residence at Nature in Art and her work has sold both in the UK and abroad.

A Mothers Love @ Nature in Art

A Mothers LoveExhibition:
This display features a wonderful collection of Chinese folk art – embroidered children’s hats roughly 100 years old.

Silk has been used in China since ancient times and embroidery has become a common folk art in China. Many of the children’s hats contain animal imagiary, which is believed to invoked good fortune, outwit evil forces and help bring happiness and longevity.

Karen Coulson is a coloured pencil artist as well as a tutor specialising in wildlife and animal portraits. She enjoys incorporating unusual backgrounds behind her subject which indulges her love of colour.

Karen is a Gold Signature Member of the UKCPS (United Kingdom Coloured Pencil Society). She has won many awards for her artwork including “Best Fantasy/Abstract” picture at the UKCPS Annual International Exhibition in 2014.

Exhibition:

A display by Dutch lace maker Yvonne Scheele-Kerkhof and her interpretations of Asian motifs.

She describes her work as ‘painting in thread’ and through these exquisite pieces she takes us on a journey to discover the beauty of the Orient and the meaning and symbolism of the designs.

The Beauty of the Orient is on show until April 24th.

Exhibition:Lynda-Keeton-Repeat-s

Inspired by nature in a single seedpod or insects sheltering in the tree canopy, a found treasure or beloved artefact, the work within this exhibition is constructed using material such as handmade paper, rusty wire and recycled lace, charting a creative textile journey to a place that is On the Edge of traditional stitch practice.

Born in England in 1972. For most of her childhood she lived in a village near Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire and this is where her passion for drawing and painting began.

Following her training as a Graphic Designer, she decided to try to convert her passion for painting into a full-time career. Having successfully exhibited her paintings; within a year she had fulfilled her ambition to become a professional Artist.

She lives with her family in Devon and delights in the abundance of wildlife and spectacular scenery that surrounds her studio.

This Easter we are running a range of our popular art activity days for children aged 3 years and over. They include:

Thurs 2nd April – Easter Bunny Trail… a chocolaty treat awaits once you find them all!
Tues 7th April – Inspired by Henri Matisse; Paper Cuts
Wed 8th April – Copper Embossing
Thurs 9th April – Twinkling Wire Wishing Tree
Fri 10th April – Candle Making

Picture3Each workshop interprets the day’s theme using age appropriate materials and techniques. The different times are:
10.30-12.00pm: for 3 – 7 years
1.00-2.30pm: for 3 – 18 years
3.00-4.30pm: for 8 – 18 years

Each activity costs £6 per child and includes free entry to the museum for one accompanying adult. All activity must be booked in advance via our online booking system.

Join the art group as they listen to award-winning artist Claudia Hahn, who is an expert at using natural pigments, taken from household items, such as tea, coffee and beetroot to create nature-inspired artworks.

Claudia Hahn is a published freelance illustrator and wildlife artist based in Cranleigh, UK.

“I have been around the globe on assignments, commissions, missions, exhibitions and sometimes just plain stalking for new inspiration. My love for details and vibrant choice of colour combinations are trademarks of my pictures. I don’t seem to be able to leave paintings alone until they look right to me, and I will always find something on them I can improve.”
