Artist in Residence
Gareth Watling started his artistic career in graphic design and freelance illustration, but he now dedicates his time to establishing himself as an artist portraying British Birds.
Artist in Residence
Ros Wise is based in Gloucestershire and began to paint seriously in 1980. ‘My main inspiration is the Natural World. I began by studying single plants and flower heads in detail and traced their change and evolution through the seasonal year. At the moment I am painting less botanically and painting plants where they naturally grow whether in gardens or wild spaces.’
To complement our CROWD exhibition (opening October 4th), come and look afresh at some of the objects included in that exhibition and other favourities in the Nature in Art collection. Personal thoughts and stories behind the items. An illustrated talk for everyone by Simon Trapnell.

Stephen Walton is a self taught, award winning artist who specialises in using charcoal and charcoal pencils.
‘My artwork developed alongside my love of taking photographs, which resulted in my very particular style and method; when I am out and about I take photographs and when I am at home I draw from them.’
Exhibition:
An exhibition by the Gloucestershire based ‘Stitched Up’ textile artists’ group. They use textiles and other media to imaginatively portray the countryside and coast during the changing seasons.
Dare to Dabble
Choose from 2 sessions: 10.30am – 1.00pm or 2.00pm – 4.30pm
Learn how to make your very own scraperboard – a very effective material to draw on. Then using specialist tools you will be able to scratch into the surface to draw whatever image takes your fancy.

Art Course

This 2-day course is a wonderful introduction to the world of coloured pencil techniques. Learn the art of layering different coloured pencil strokes to create the ‘realistic details’ of a Cheetah, using Derwent Coloursoft Pencils on a coloured Mount Board.
A line drawing will be provided to trace if you do not wish to draw the image free hand.

Artist’s Profile
Karen is a self taught award winning coloured pencil artist and tutor, painting mostly wildlife subjects. She is a Gold Signature member of the UKCPS (United Kingdom Coloured pencil Society).
She exhibits nationally and has won many awards for her detailed pencil work. She runs regular workshops in the Pencil Museum, Keswick as well as many classes in Hampshire, where she currently lives.
