Meg Stevens died in 2012 and had had a long association with Nature in Art. She spent much of her life painting out of doors producing paintings that seem to be filled with the breath of fresh air. This retrospective is largely made up of work from the family’s collection. Some items will be for sale.
In 2016 Nature in Art was given custody of an archive of work by one of the 20th century’s most influential nature artists, the renowned Eric Ennion (1900-1981). See never previously displayed works from this archive, in the company of other paintings loaned from private and public collections.
This talk coincides with our exhibition of work by Eric Ennion, a remarkable all-round naturalist who was one of the 20th century’s most talented and original wildlife artists. Field Sketch: an inspiring wildlife encounter, seized and committed to paper. Gordano Textile Artists return once more with a fresh and vibrant exhibition of textile art based on the natural world with many pieces taking a theme from the objects selected for the popular CROWD exhibition last year. The display will feature a variety of techniques using fabric, thread and paper.

All the latest winners in the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography competition organised by The Natural History Museum. Chosen from almost 50,000 entries from 92 countries, these amazing images reflect nature’s beauty, diversity and fragility.
These three particular fish were very curious. As I approached, they danced about the camera lens, and there are parasitic isopod in their mouth. It took me six dives, patience and luck to capture the exact moment when all three fish opened their mouths to reveal their guests. Finally, on the last day, on the last dive, I succeeded.

GSBI specialises in botanical illustration as distinct from flower painting and includes a number of RHS medal winners. This exhibition will display fine examples of works in pencil, ink and watercolour.

In the 1960’s, Born Free captured the world’s imagination with the story of Elsa, an orphaned lioness who was taken in by George and Joy Adamson and returned to a life in the wild. The book and film sparked a new love of nature but the true story of what happened afterwards was far more tragic as both George and Joy were murdered. This drama documentary re-lives those events. Nature in Art has held a number of events in support of Elsa Trust and Born Free. Representatives from Elsa Trust will be present on the night and a few of Joy Adamson’s original paintings will be on show.
