Tethered Wits Theatre Company present Blithe Spirit by Noël Coward – a delightful summer evening comedy in the museum’s garden.
Socialite novelist Charles Condomine, is living in re-married bliss until a visit from “happy medium”, one Madame Arcati, brings back the ghost of his dead wife during a séance… With both wives watching on, Charles is caught in the middle of a sprightly storm of conflicting personalities.
Expect mayhem and mishaps in Coward’s timeless comic farce which captures the chaos of both life and the afterlife. After all, what mischief would you create when you “pass over”?
Tethered Wits are thrilled to present another of their Summer touring productions, which have been previously hailed as “truly a joy to watch” (Palatinate).

Natural World of Man – The Art of Conservation is an exhibition inspired by some of the conservation and environmental achievements of Peter Scott, renowned not only as an artist, but as one of the most important conservationists of the twentieth century. Work by Peter Scott will be displayed with other works by well-known artists that draw attention to some of Peter Scott’s passions. The exhibition will include Peter Scott’s painting ‘The Natural World of Man’, which represents man’s dilemma in his relationship with nature, and a ‘Self-portrait with Humpbacks’, both works rarely seen in public.
Join members of Sir Peter Scott’s family, to view this unique display of work by Sir Peter and other renowned artists.

Paul Walkden, Nature in Art’s chairman, will share with us the life of this great man, referred to by Sir David Attenborough as ‘The Patron Saint of Conservation’.
Scott established WWT, was instrumental in establishing the WWF, was an artist, a war hero, sportsman, broadcaster, author and Nature in Art’s first President.
Paul came to live in Gloucestershire with a view to meeting his childhood hero and was fortunate in getting to know Sir Peter and was invited to be his bibliographer. He was a founder member of the volunteer group at WWT, sat on its governing Council for six years and is currently a Scott house museum guide.

Richard, as well as being an artist, working as a painter and in textiles, he is also an art historian and is a long-standing lecturer for the Arts Society ( formally NADFAS ).
Flowers are amongst the most beautiful treasures that Mother Nature has bestowed upon us. Consequently, many cultures have attributed particular species to mythological mortals and even to their immortals. Some even have those whose sole occupation is to preside over the entire floral kingdom. Using colourful examples of the fine and decorative arts from world-wide cultures and from far reaching historical periods this lecture is all about the various, and sometimes differing, symbolic meanings of flowers and their attributions. For your amusement as well as erudition, it will also include many fascinating stories from ancient mythologies and folk lore.

The Water Universe Exhibition at Nature in Art is the first showing of Julie Askew’s water research project, in collaboration with British Antarctic Survey, the Cabot Institute and Bath Spa University.
Join Julie Askew as she takes you on a visual feast to discover where art and science meet in a breathtaking microscopic watery world. Observe ice and water as you have never seen it before, learn the story behind the dramatic photographs and how the 3D painted artworks evolved from paper to sparkling cubes.
Christmas Celebration with the Gloucester and District Christian Choir.
Come and join us to bring in the Christmas Season with a festive selection of Carols and Songs brought to us by this local community choir.
The choir was formed 22 years ago and, even though it mainly sings in and around the county, it travelled to India some years ago to perform there.
Part of the ticket will be donated to Gloucester Foodbank.

Wildlife artist Shelly Perkins shares her passion for travel and the natural world through her own photographs, sketches and studio works. Share Shelly’s global adventures to seek out the wild places on our planet and explore with her the fascinating flora, fauna and landscapes that those travels have revealed. See then how these travels, from places as diverse as Africa to Antarctica inspire her finished pieces back home.

Debbie is Chair of the Gloucestershire Society of Botanical Illustration. From early cave paintings, ancient Egyptians, Medieval Monks, right up to the present day, plants have been depicted in one form or another. With potted histories of some of the most famous artists, this talk will take you from those earliest days through the age of discovery when Botanical Illustration was at its peak. Today Botanical Art is currently undergoing a renaissance with more and more people practicing and appreciating this fascinating art form.

Come and join us at Nature in Art as we celebrate Earth Day. Throughout the day, there will be many activities to get involved with, from making insect hotels to feathery bird masks (+ much more). Family activities are linked to The Wild Escape, which is an initiative led by The Art Fund to engage young people with the UK’s natural environment through art. Activities will also relate to birds and to the theme of Earth Day 2023: Invest in our Planet.
JRCS Falconry will be joining us to show a magnificent selection of Birds of Prey. There will be short talks throughout the day and the opportunity to get close to these impressive birds. (Please note that this will be a static display). 11am – 4pm.
Also happening during the day: Take part in a scavenger hunt in the garden and enter the raffle. Artist, Trevor Smith, will be sketching the Birds of Prey and there will be a chance to learn how to draw a bird yourself. Don’t forget to bring your sketchbook!
Your entry to the family day also includes admission to the rest of the museum. Whilst you’re here, take the chance to visit ‘Secrets of the Studio’, an exhibition of the work of Elizabeth Gray who had a long association with Nature in Art. Also on show are select works (relating to predominantly British wildlife) from the Nature in Art Collection. There is also the opportunity to see a second artist at work: this week’s Artist in Residence, Philip Nelson, who specialises in decorative decoys. He will be working in the Artist’s Studio.
The coffee shop and gift shop will be open as usual.
